Imagine pulling your iPhone from a velvet box and finding a real slice of prehistory fixed to its back. That's the spectacle Caviar, the Russian luxury house, rolled out when it unveiled a new case for the iPhone 17 Pro Max that houses an actual fossilized T. Rex tooth.
They call it the Magnetic Custom Relict. The price tag? $4,490. For context, that’s roughly three times the cost of Apple’s base iPhone 17 Pro Max in the U.S. The case isn’t a stunt without craft—Caviar fused aerospace-grade titanium with Himalayan crocodile leather and a gem-quality blue enamel finish to frame the fossil like a museum piece.

The tooth sits dead center in the brand’s signature logo and attaches magnetically to the case, intended as a removable relic you can show off or snap back in place. It’s a collision of archaeology and high-end design: raw paleontology meeting the sterilized polish of modern tech accessories.
Only seven of these cases will ever be sold. Each one ships in a tailored gift box and comes with a certificate of authenticity plus personalization papers—an entire ritual around ownership that’s as much about bragging rights as provenance.

Caviar has built a reputation by pushing the limits of what phone accessories can be. Some see these releases as collectible art; others call them excess. Either way, the market for ultra-luxury phone gear keeps finding buyers who want exclusivity stamped on their daily devices.
Is a fossilized tooth the next status symbol for smartphone owners? Ask a collector. Or ask yourself: would you pay to carry a piece of the Cretaceous every time you unlock your phone?
