Markets Focus on Fed and BoJ as Bitcoin Hovers Near $64,000
Global crypto markets are bracing for two major central bank announcements next week: the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) and the Bank of Japan (BoJ). With Bitcoin trading around $64,000, investors are watching these interest rate decisions and policy statements closely for signals that could swing short-term BTC price action and broader cryptocurrency markets.
Fed outlook: inflation, oil, and rate probabilities
Markets currently expect both central banks to hold rates steady, but uncertainty remains—especially around the Fed. CME FedWatch data showed the probability of a July rate hike rising as high as 38% before easing back to roughly 34%. The key driver behind this shift is a rebound in oil prices: Brent crude recently climbed above $100 per barrel for the first time since May, reviving concerns about renewed inflationary pressures.
If higher energy prices push inflation back up, the Fed could resume a tighter monetary stance in the coming months. That prospect tends to strengthen the U.S. dollar and dampen risk appetite, often translating into downward pressure on risk assets including Bitcoin and major altcoins.

BoJ, the yen, and carry trade risks
In Japan, the BoJ is also expected to leave its policy rate near 1%, but analysts emphasize that the state of the yen may be more consequential than the headline rate. The yen has weakened to multi-decade lows, increasing the risk of government intervention or future rate adjustments.
A stronger yen — or signs of intervention — could unwind carry trades. These strategies involve borrowing cheap yen to buy higher-yielding or higher-risk assets, including cryptocurrencies. If carry trades are reduced, liquidity flowing into Bitcoin and other digital assets could retract, amplifying selling pressure.
What traders should watch
Traders and institutional investors will not only parse the headline decisions but also scrutinize the forward guidance, tone, and any hints about future monetary tightening. Key indicators to monitor include inflation updates, oil price movements, FX intervention signals from Tokyo, and CME FedWatch probability shifts.
With interest-rate dynamics, oil markets, and currency moves converging, Bitcoin’s path in the coming days will depend heavily on central bank communication. Short-term volatility is likely; investors should prepare for potential downside pressure if hawkish surprises or carry trade reversals materialize.
