Two phones, nearly identical at a glance, but built for subtly different appetites. Xiaomi rolled out the Redmi K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max in China, and the split between them reads like a deliberate trade-off: raw silicon versus optical ambition.

Under the hood the Pro swaps in Qualcomm's binned Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series (SM8850-1-AB) — a tuned-down variant of the full Elite Gen 5. The headline change sits in the GPU: an Adreno 840 running on two cores at 1.2GHz instead of three at 1.3GHz. Less brute force, perhaps, but also fewer heat spikes and better sustained clocks in long sessions. The Pro Max keeps the full-fat Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which should deliver the peak frame rates and benchmarks enthusiasts chase.

Memory and storage don't play favorites. Both models can be configured with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and high-speed UFS 4.1 storage, with the Max offering a 1TB top-tier option that will please power users who never delete a single file.

Look at the screens and the split becomes literal. The K100 Pro sits on a 6.56-inch OLED with a 1.5K resolution (2510 x 1156) and an absurdly high 185Hz refresh rate. The Pro Max stretches that out to a 6.9-inch AMOLED at 2608 x 1200, same 185Hz. Smooth scrolling, low latency, and displays built for gaming and fast UI interactions.

Photography diverges more sharply. Both phones carry a 200MP main sensor sized at 1/1.56 inches, so daytime shots should be comparable. But the Pro Max adds a 50MP periscope telephoto (ISOCELL JN5) with 5x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide (OV50M). The regular Pro pares back to a 2.5x telephoto and an 8MP ultrawide. If long-range shots and wider scenes matter to you, the Max is the obvious choice. Both devices also include a rear subwoofer tuned by Bose — yes, an actual speaker for richer sound from the back of the phone.

Battery capacity is another area where Xiaomi pushed numbers. The K100 Pro carries an 8,580mAh Si-C cell. The Pro Max bumps that to 9,070mAh. Both phones support 100W wired charging, 50W wireless, and 27W reverse wired charging, so top-ups are fast whether you plug in or set the phone on a pad. IP66/68/69 ingress protection is listed for both models, so durability isn't an afterthought.

In plain terms: choose the Pro for a more thermally economical chip and slightly smaller footprint; pick the Pro Max if you want the fastest silicon, a serious zoom camera, and the biggest battery.

Colors are straightforward. The K100 Pro comes in volt, white, black, and red. The K100 Pro Max is offered in blue, white, black, and red. Pricing in China starts at CNY 3,699 (about $548) for the K100 Pro 12GB/256GB and heads up to CNY 4,699 ($696) for 16GB/512GB. The Pro Max opens at CNY 4,199 ($622) for 12GB/256GB and tops out at CNY 5,999 ($890) for the 16GB/1TB variant.

  • Chipset: SD 8 Elite Gen 5 (Pro Max) vs binned SD 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series (Pro)
  • Memory: up to 16GB LPDDR5X Ultra
  • Storage: up to 1TB UFS 4.1 (Pro Max)
  • Displays: 6.56-inch 1.5K 185Hz (Pro) / 6.9-inch 2608 x 1200 185Hz (Pro Max)
  • Cameras: 200MP main; Pro Max adds 50MP 5x periscope + 50MP ultrawide; Pro has 2.5x tele + 8MP ultrawide
  • Battery & charging: 8,580mAh vs 9,070mAh; 100W wired, 50W wireless, 27W reverse
  • IP rating: IP66/68/69

This launch looks tactical. If prior generations' Redmi-to-Poco transitions hold, these phones could reappear globally later this year as the Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra. Will Xiaomi keep the same specs and price brackets on an international stage? Time will tell — but for anyone sizing up a new flagship, the K100 line is now a compelling choice in both performance and battery longevity.

Nice cameras, huge battery... but those sizes? 6.9inch for most ppl is a tablet. pricing seems steep for Redmi branding, imo

Wait, so Pro gets a binned Elite with 2-core Adreno to keep temps down? clever move, but does that mean worse gaming peaks... and real world fps drops?
