New Image Reveals Cast for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners S2

One snapshot can change the conversation. A fresh image from season two of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has surfaced, teasing a handful of new faces and reigniting interest in Night City.

Season two was first announced for July 2025, and fans shouldn’t expect a direct continuation of last year’s story. Instead, Netflix has positioned this installment as a standalone, ten-episode arc set in the same Cyberpunk 2077 universe — a gritty yarn about redemption and revenge told through a brand-new crew. Given the fates of the original cast, starting anew is both bold and sensible.

Trigger is back at the helm. The studio behind kinetic hits like Kill la Kill and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt returns to produce the series, with Kai Igarashi — who served as animation director on the first season — stepping into the director’s chair. Writers Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka have rejoined the creative team, and Ichigo Kanno returns to lead character design. The pedigree is clear; the team knows how to marry high-octane visuals with human stakes.

Why does any of this matter? Because the original Edgerunners did more than impress critics. It rerouted attention back to CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 at a time the game desperately needed fresh momentum. That anime’s blend of maximalist animation, sharp worldbuilding and heartrending tragedy rekindled player interest and boosted sales — proof that a great adaptation can reshape a franchise’s trajectory.

Edgerunners’ influence keeps spreading. Characters from the show have cropped up in other media: Lucy turned up as a guest fighter in Guilty Gear Strive, and both Lucy and Rebecca have been added to Wuthering Waves. There’s also a prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness by Asano, currently running with a print edition from Dark Horse.

Everything about this second season — the fresh cast, the experienced studio team, the promise of a standalone ten-episode story — suggests Trigger and Netflix are aiming for another cultural spike.
