DR brings KMC T8 to Europe as the DR PK8
DR Automobiles has launched the KMC T8 in European markets under the name DR PK8, aiming to challenge established midsize pickups such as the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger by competing on price and practicality. The Italian company — known for importing Chinese models into Italy and Spain — positions the PK8 as a value-driven alternative for buyers seeking work-ready capability with modern comforts.

From Chinese parts to Italian assembly
While many components are produced in China, final assembly takes place at DR's facility in Italy. This strategy allows DR to promise local standards of quality control and tailor the truck for European compliance while keeping the price point competitive. The PK8 arrives in a single, well-equipped trim priced from €26,900.
Design and equipment: rugged yet refined
Visually the DR PK8 mirrors the KMC T8 with minor revisions to better align with DR’s family look. Notable exterior features include pronounced wheel arches, 18-inch alloy wheels, integrated side steps, chrome door handles and a functional roll bar. A new grille distinguishes the European model from versions seen elsewhere.

Inside, DR has not sacrificed passenger comfort for utility. The cabin offers synthetic leather upholstery, an electric sunroof, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Practical touches aimed at daily usability include:
- Voice assistant and dual USB ports
- 360-degree camera system
- Center armrests for front and rear passengers

Powertrain and off-road chops
Under the bonnet the PK8 is offered in Europe with a single 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 136 hp and 320 Nm of torque, paired exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox. The pickup is built on JAC’s commercial-vehicle platform and—although it lacks a locking differential—benefits from a low-range transfer case for tougher terrain.
Off-road geometry is a surprise strength: approach and departure angles are reported to be even more favorable than the Ford Ranger’s, enhancing capability on steep tracks. Key mechanical figures:
- Curb weight: 2,040 kg
- Payload: 830 kg
- Maximum towing capacity: 3,500 kg

Market positioning and verdict
DR hopes the PK8’s combination of practical payload, strong towing capacity and a sub-€27k entry price will tempt fleet buyers and private owners away from more established rivals. For many European buyers, the choice will come down to brand confidence and resale value—areas where Toyota and Ford remain strong—but the DR PK8 presents a credible, budget-oriented alternative if you prioritise features and capability per euro.
In short, the DR PK8 (KMC T8) is a pragmatic, cost-conscious pickup: not a reinvention of the segment, but a smart value play that could shake up buying decisions in the lower end of the midsize pickup market.
