Five Stars Join FX's Far Cry: Gleeson Confirmed Cast

Casting is a clue. Big names keep arriving at FXs TV adaptation of Far Cry, and the latest wave raises the stakes: Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell and Jamie Demetriou have all signed on.

The arrivals join creators Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney, expanding an ensemble already home to Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi. FX and the showrunners are staying tight-lipped about who will play whom. No character details. No plot crumbs. Just faces added to an increasingly intriguing roster.

Some of these choices are less surprising when you trace Hawleys orbit. Leigh, Linklater and Spruell are Hawley alumni—each has worked with him on Fargo, with Leigh and Spruell appearing in season five and Linklater in season three. Linklater also turns up in Legion, another Hawley project. Familiar collaborators. New terrain.

Spruell brings a busy recent résumé: he has credits on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the Ridley Scott-linked project The Dog Stars, plus the BBC series The Gold. He also appears in season two of Alien: Earth, a show Hawley helped produce—proof that this casting is as much about working chemistry as it is about star wattage.

Gleeson, fresh off a Prime Video noir outing, will next appear in the limited series The Good Daughter on Peacock with Rose Byrne and Megan Fahy. He needs little introduction—an Oscar nomination for The Banshees of Inisherin anchors a career that shifts effortlessly between character work and headline turns.

Jennifer Jason Leigh carries her own awards pedigree, an Oscar nod for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight among her highlights. Her recent slate includes Netflixs Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, the series High Potential and the film Crime 101. Each role feels chosen, deliberate.

Linklater earned an Emmy nomination this year for a guest turn on Widow's Bay. He also popped up in Gen V season two and appears in Netflixs The Whisper Man. Jamie Demetriou is juggling comedy and prestige—he hosts SNL UK soon, joins Netflixs new Pride and Prejudice adaptation in December, and will be part of Only Murders in the Building season six.

FX Productions is at the helm. The plan, according to insiders, is an anthology format: every season could tell a standalone story with new characters and a fresh tone. Which corner of the games will the first season mine? Which era, which island, which moral tangle? That, FX has not said.

The cast is now noticeably starry, but the series is keeping its secrets—so for now we wait, and imagine what a Far Cry season led by these actors might look like.
