Two days can feel like an eternity in the Marvel calendar. Empire confirms what fans had been whispering: Avengers: Doomsday will open in UK cinemas on Wednesday, December 16, two days ahead of the global release date set for December 18.

Downey spoke about the shift in a recent appearance, admitting the role has given him fresh perspective. "For now I'll say Doom, because I had the chance to really see what I'd been missing all this time — I mean, all the other people," he said, underscoring how different and liberating a villainous turn can feel after a decade as a beloved hero.
Historically, live-action Doom has been portrayed by Julian McMahon and Toby Kebbell; Downey will be the third actor to take the mask to the big screen. His presence signals that Avengers: Doomsday is aiming for spectacle and surprise in equal measure.
Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have already positioned this film as one of the bookends of Phase 6. Avengers: Doomsday arrives ahead of the saga-ending Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for December 2027 and directed by the Russos. Secret Wars will attempt to stitch together the multiversal strands that Marvel has been teasing for years.
This crossover will unite Earth's heroes with the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, putting several iconic teams on the same battlefield.
To help audiences bridge the gap between chapters, the Russos argue that rewatching Endgame in theaters matters. Joe Russo told Fandango that Endgame and Doomsday are narratively linked: watching Endgame again will both entertain and prepare viewers for the incoming Doomsday story.
On the casting front, a large ensemble is expected. The film reunites legacy Avengers and pulls in characters from Fantastic Four and the X-Men, with several actors reprising signature roles. Chris Evans, for example, will return as Steve Rogers for Doomsday and is also confirmed to appear in Secret Wars, whose production is slated to begin this fall.
There are still surprises to come. Kevin Feige has hinted that not every reveal has been made public, so expect a few deliberate shocks between now and December.
