BYD launches a significantly upgraded Atto 3
BYD has introduced an updated version of its compact electric SUV Atto 3, known in China as the Yuan Plus. The new model represents a clear generational step: longer range, stronger motor output, and a handful of practical refinements that make the crossover more competitive in the global EV market.
Key highlights
- New Blade LFP battery: 74.88 kWh
- CLTC range: up to 650 km
- Electric motor: 230 kW (about 308 hp)
- Top speed: 180 km/h
Battery and range upgrade
The headline change is the adoption of a larger Blade LFP battery pack at 74.88 kWh. According to data filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, this pack enables an impressive CLTC-rated driving range of up to 650 km. By comparison, previous Atto 3 variants used 49.92 kWh or 60.48 kWh batteries, with official ranges of roughly 430 km and 510 km respectively. That jump in real-world usability is significant for buyers who value long-distance capability from an electric SUV.

Performance and driving dynamics
Under the hood the updated Atto 3 now uses a permanent magnet electric motor rated at 230 kW, a sizeable increase over the former 150 kW unit. Power rises to approximately 308 horsepower, and top speed is increased from 160 to 180 km/h. These changes aim to deliver a livelier driving experience and better overtaking performance, while still fitting the Atto 3 profile as an urban-friendly crossover.
Dimensions and design notes
Dimensions remain largely the same: 4455 mm long, 1875 mm wide and 1615 mm tall, with a 2720 mm wheelbase. Visual updates are subtle but sporty: new grey 18-inch wheels with a twin five-spoke pattern and tire options of 215/55 and 235/50 add a fresher look. One practical change is the relocation of the charging port from the front fender to the rear fender, improving ease of access at public chargers.
Equipment, weight and positioning
BYD has added a standard panoramic sunroof and offers options such as front radar, side and rear cameras, and chrome window trim. The refreshed Atto 3 weighs about 1880 kg, some 190 to 255 kg heavier than the previous generation, largely due to the larger battery and added equipment.

Pricing has not been announced for the updated model. For reference, current Atto 3 prices in China range roughly from 111,800 to 141,800 yuan, and the model has been available with BYD's advanced driver assistance package called Gods Eye C, which integrates 29 sensors including five millimeter wave radars, 12 high-resolution cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
This update signals BYD’s intent to push the Atto 3 upmarket and make stronger claims in the global EV compact SUV segment, where range, tech and perceived value increasingly shape buyer decisions.
