Liam Neeson has offered the clearest update yet on whether The Naked Gun 2 — a follow-up to the 2025 revival of the classic spoof franchise — will move forward. Speaking while promoting his new thriller Cold Storage, Neeson admitted he hasn’t been contacted by Paramount about a sequel, but left the door open for another outing as Frank Drebin Jr. if the pieces fall into place.
What Neeson actually said
Neeson told reporters, “I haven’t been contacted.” He added that he would happily return if there’s a strong script and if co-stars such as Pamela Anderson and Danny Huston were available to reprise their roles. The actor also acknowledged the film’s healthy box office — $52 million domestic and $101 million worldwide after its August 2025 release — and the positive critical reception (an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes), but stressed that, so far, no sequel offer has landed on his desk.
How this fits the franchise revival trend
Studios have leaned hard on nostalgia in recent years, rebooting and reviving everything from slapstick comedies to prestige dramas. Paramount’s decision to greenlight Akiva Schaffer’s 2025 Naked Gun revival tapped that appetite: it blended reverence for Leslie Nielsen’s deadpan legacy with contemporary comedic touches. The result performed respectably at the box office and won over critics, which often is the bare minimum needed to spark sequel talks.

Where a sequel could go
A second Naked Gun could follow the same tonal path — lampooning institutions and leaning into absurd set pieces — or pivot toward sharper satire in the style of modern comedy revivals like Ghostbusters: Afterlife and other legacy continuations. If Pamela Anderson and Danny Huston return, a sequel could thread continuity with the original Police Squad TV series and the 1988–1994 films, while updating jokes for a new generation.
Trivia and fan notes: Leslie Nielsen’s Frank Drebin remains an icon of deadpan comedy, and fans have been split between purists who prefer the original trilogy’s tone and newcomers who praised Schaffer’s modernized take. Behind the scenes, Schaffer — known for his work in comedy and music video–infused visuals — gave the film a kinetic style that reviewers cited as part of its charm.
For now, fans should temper excitement with patience. Neeson’s openness and the film’s financial and critical footing make a sequel plausible, but until Paramount officially calls, The Naked Gun 2 remains a possibility rather than a promise.
