She had a shock on her calendar. Indi Navarat, the breakout star of the surprise horror hit Obsession, quietly passed on an offer to join Michael Mann’s Heat 2 — and the reason is a very 21st-century Hollywood dilemma: timing versus opportunity.
Page Six reports that Navarat was courted to play Charlene, a role Ashley Judd once filled in the original Heat. The sequel’s cameras are set to roll this fall, but that production timetable clashes with Marvel’s schedule for its new X-Men film. Faced with overlapping commitments, Navarat picked the part that could redefine her career: Rogue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Why Rogue? Maybe it’s the chance to anchor scenes opposite a roster that already reads like a comic-book summit. The X-Men cast revealed at D23 confirms Navarat as Rogue, while Maya Boyd will play Storm, Christopher Abbott steps in as Professor Charles Xavier, and Adam Driver takes on Mister Sinister. Other announced cast members include Kate Conner as Scott Summers and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, with Sadie Sink slated to appear as Jean Grey in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Navarat herself had previously expressed interest in playing Mystique, which makes this casting turn interesting: she gambled on a big Marvel role rather than a prestige crime sequel. Reports also suggest she turned down another horror offer to secure the X-Men part — a decision that speaks to the long game many young actors now play when franchises and schedules collide.
Her rise has been fast and unexpected. Obsession cost roughly $700,000 to make and went on to haul more than $300 million at the worldwide box office. In it, Navarat plays Nikki, a young woman whose life spirals into possession and obsession after a man named Bar uses a magical wish to force her love. The film’s astonishing returns made Navarat a name studios suddenly wanted to court.
Heat 2 isn’t dead in the water; it’s simply moved into the category of projects that must juggle A-list availabilities. Michael Mann’s follow-up still carries weight, but for Navarat the allure of joining Marvel’s X-Men roster — with its global reach and serialized storytelling — proved decisive.
The new X-Men, directed by Londoner Matthias Hoene, is scheduled for release on May 6, 2028. Whether Navarat’s choice pays off in the long run will be a favorite topic of industry chatter. For now, the next few years will reveal if the young actress’ calculated pass on Heat 2 becomes one of those career-making calls actors dream of making.
