Arcfox brings race-grade safety and magnetic suspension to the minivan

Arcfox, the premium offshoot of BAIC, has stunned the family transport segment with the Vendao V9, a seven-seat minivan that introduces two technologies seldom seen outside motorsport: an integrated roll cage and a magnetorheological suspension system. This is not a subtle evolution of the MPV concept. It is a deliberate attempt to redefine safety, comfort, and efficiency in a category long dominated by conservative packaging and predictable engineering.

What makes the Vendao V9 different

Until now, a roll cage was a hallmark of race cars and track-oriented builds. Arcfox has welded a structural cage into the V9's architecture, raising crash protection and body rigidity to new levels for a family vehicle. Complementing that hardened structure is an advanced magnetorheological damping system that acts as the chassis control center, adjusting shock stiffness in real time.

The result is a minivan that promises exceptional occupant protection and a ride quality that adapts faster than conventional adaptive dampers. Arcfox says the magnetorheological shocks react up to 1000 times per second, reportedly 10 to 30 times quicker than typical adaptive systems. In practical terms, the suspension can anticipate and soften impacts from potholes or road irregularities before they translate into cabin disturbance, delivering a composed and comfortable ride even on rough tarmac.

Powertrain and claimed range

The Vendao V9 uses a range extender layout. A 1.5 liter turbocharged engine rated at 158 hp operates primarily as a generator to keep the onboard lithium iron phosphate battery charged, while propulsion is handled by a 304 hp electric motor. Arcfox quotes a remarkable combined range of around 1500 km and a top speed of 190 km/h. Detailed pure electric range figures and exact battery capacity have not yet been released by the company.

Chassis, dimensions and interior

Arcfox pairs the magnetorheological dampers with double-wishbone aluminium front suspension and a five-link rear set-up, aiming to balance comfort with predictable handling and steering feel. Measuring 5,300 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and offering a 3,200 mm wheelbase, the V9 promises generous interior space for seven occupants. The exterior styling leans modern and imposing, with full-width LED light bars front and rear and a large cascading grille that give the minivan an authoritative road presence.

Highlights:

  • First production minivan with an integrated roll cage
  • Magnetorheological suspension for ultra-fast damping control
  • Range extender powertrain with 304 hp electric drive
  • Spacious seven-seat layout and premium safety focus

Arcfox first showed the Vendao V9 at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2025, and after a formal reveal in February 2026 the model is slated to reach showrooms in the second quarter of 2026. With its unique mix of race-derived safety, advanced suspension technology and electrified range-extender propulsion, the Vendao V9 aims to carve out a new, tech-forward niche in the global minivan market.

For buyers prioritizing safety, adaptive ride comfort and electric drive capability in family transport, the V9 is a noteworthy arrival. More detailed specs, pricing and full EV range numbers should follow as Arcfox moves toward commercial launch.
