A single photograph can shift the story. James Gunn just dropped the first on-set image of Lex Luthor's war armor from Man of Tomorrow, and it says more than a thousand press releases ever could.
Rather than leaning on CGI, DC opted for a fully practical suit — a tactile, comic-faithful armor rendered mostly in green with purple accents, though shadows keep some details mysterious. It looks lived-in. It looks dangerous.
Nicholas Hoult appears inside the suit, standing amid sand. A beach? A desert ruin? An alien shore? Gunn confirmed the shot was taken on set, leaving room for plenty of speculation about where Luthor will show up and why.
This single image also acts as a connective tissue to other corners of DC's first season. In the 2025 Superman film, heroes wore LordTech-branded uniforms; on Luthor’s armor the LordTech mark is absent, but an ARGUS logo is clearly visible on his chest. That logo matters.

Anyone who watched Peacemaker season 2 will recognize the thread. Lex Luthor made a brief but pivotal appearance there: Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) visited him in Belle Reve to enlist his help finding Peacemaker, because of Luthor’s knowledge about parallel dimensions hinted at in Superman. After negotiating a transfer to a site called Van Knull, Luthor cooperated — and a channel opened between him and Flag.
With Brainiac (Lars Eidinger) set to feature in Man of Tomorrow, ARGUS turning to one of the planet’s smartest minds during a crisis makes perfect narrative sense — especially with Flag already having a direct line to Luthor. ARGUS likely commissioned and equipped Lex Luthor with this practical war armor.
The image is a tease and a promise: practical effects, interwoven continuity, and a hint of larger stakes. Keep watching — this armor might be the first visible piece of a much bigger DC puzzle.
