Peter Dinklage is about to trade quiet wit for full-on action. He’s been tapped to play the lead in Kenji Tanigaki’s next film, The Reckoner, a project already buzzing because of the creative team attached.
Tanigaki, who turned heads with The Furious, will direct a screenplay written by Derek Kolstad, the mind behind John Wick. Plot details are being kept close to the vest, but the combination of Kolstad’s lean, kinetic writing and Tanigaki’s choreographic eye promises a film built around precise, ruthless set pieces and human stakes.

Erin Westerman, Lionsgate’s head of theatrical films, praised Tanigaki’s singular approach to action and said the studio is eager to help scale his vision to a global audience. Angela Russo-Otstot of AGBO echoed that sentiment, noting that Kolstad and Dinklage brought a vivid, emotionally textured world to the project—one that felt tailor-made for Tanigaki’s choreography and visual language.

Tanigaki’s last film, The Furious, quietly earned more than $6 million in the U.S. and topped $31 million worldwide—proof that his style resonates beyond niche audiences.
