Imagine a fan duet layered over a lightsaber clash, or a Pixar moment remixed into a 30-second comedy sketch — and then imagine that clip appearing not only on TikTok but inside Disney+. That scenario just moved from fantasy to policy.

Walt Disney and TikTok have signed a global agreement that gives creators and superfans licensed access to iconic clips from Disney's film and TV catalog for use in short-form videos. The pilot phase launches in the United States in the coming months, with plans to roll the program out to additional markets thereafter.

Selected short videos made by volunteer creators on TikTok will live on both platforms: discoverable in the TikTok feed and curated into a dedicated space on Disney+. The clips will draw from across Disney's brands — Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX and other studio houses — effectively weaving fan creativity into the official streaming experience.

This partnership gives creators official access to Disney's archives and a direct route onto Disney+.

Beyond a simple content swap, TikTok will supply creators with access to a broader set of Disney assets and source material, while Disney+ will refresh its short-form selection regularly. The stated goal is to keep discovery fresh, boost fan interaction, and turn passive viewers into active participants in franchise conversations.

Why now? Because the data says it's working. TikTok reports that last year users posted roughly 6.5 million daily videos related to movies and TV shows. And in an internal survey, nearly half of respondents said they watched a film or series on TV or a streaming service after seeing entertainment content on TikTok. In short: short clips drive long-form viewing.

Dawn Young, TikTok's global head of entertainment, framed the deal around creators. She noted that user imagination prolongs a title's cultural life through fan-driven conversation. By blending TikTok's creative language with Disney+, both platforms stand to amplify fandom and surface unexpected hits.

For creators, the offer opens new creative latitude and clearer rights pathways. For Disney, it’s a strategic experiment in tapping virality as a discovery engine. For audiences, it promises a livelier, more participatory way to encounter beloved characters and stories.

Expect surprises. Expect trends to jump platforms. And expect the next viral fan edit to be only the beginning.
