Nicolas Cage sounded almost relieved when Prime Video quietly ended Spider-Noir after a single season. No rage. No pleas. Just a clear sense that the story he wanted to tell had been told.

Speaking with Deadline, Cage was blunt: 'One season was perfect for me.' He explained that the show's risky, pop‑art take on a noir Spider-Man was exactly the experiment he wanted to try — and that the first run delivers that statement in full.

For Cage, the first season stood as a complete piece of art.

That outlook might surprise fans who expected disappointment at the cancellation. Critics and audiences, after all, warmly embraced Spider-Noir: 92% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 90% from viewers. The series also collected 11 Emmy nominations, making it Prime Video's most decorated show of 2026.

So why pull the plug? Sources point to a familiar streaming calculus — very high production costs paired with viewership that, while respectable, didn't reach franchise-level numbers. In other words: critical love couldn't fully offset the budget-versus-audience equation for Prime Video.

This was also Cage's first foray into television, and he treated it like a cinematic experiment. He told interviewers he drew heavily on 1930s and 1940s noir cinema, blending that moody atmosphere with the Spider-Man mythos to craft something intentionally different. The result was stylized, strange, and unapologetically bold.

Far from closing the door on streaming, Cage remains invested in the format. He still has a film with Prime Video — Madden — scheduled for release on November 18, and he says he sees streaming platforms as a vital part of entertainment's future. Will he return to serialized work? He seems open, as long as the idea warrants the leap.
