Don’t expect Tom Holland to swing back into theaters next year. Not yet. After the unprecedented success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day — which has climbed past the $2.4 billion mark worldwide — fans naturally want a follow-up. But Sony’s chief executive, Ravi Ahuja, told Variety there’s no firm release date for Spider-Man 5.
That answer sounded simple, but it says a lot. Studios rarely rush a franchise after a giant hit. They plan. They recalibrate. And they wait for the right creative window. Ahuja made a point of mentioning Sony has a Spider-Verse entry on the schedule for the coming year. In other words, live-action Peter Parker isn’t the studio’s immediate priority.
Remember the gaps between the last Tom Holland outings? There was a clear lull between Spider-Man: No Way Home and Brand New Day. That pattern looks set to repeat. With Marvel’s Phase Six racing toward its climactic chapters — Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars — Spider-Man 5 won’t be shoehorned into that tail end.

Studio roadmaps matter. Marvel’s pipeline for 2028 already includes heavy hitters: a new X‑Men movie, Ghost Rider, Black Panther 3. Those projects will dominate scheduling and talent availability. Given that landscape, the most likely scenario is that Tom Holland’s next solo Spidey will arrive in 2029 at the earliest, if not later.
None of this is an official release calendar. Ahuja declined to peg a specific year. So while marketing teams and fan theories rush to map out comeback dates, Sony and Marvel appear content to let the film incubate until timing, story and the MCU’s broader arc align.
Franchise success brings freedom — and patience. Expect more teasers, strategic announcements and, eventually, a carefully staged return rather than a hurried sequel. Keep an eye on official updates; the web will light up the moment schedules change.
