Qualcomm confirms work with Samsung on 2nm process

Qualcomm's Chris Patrick says the company is 'conducting in-depth work regarding Samsung's 2nm process technology' and calls Samsung Foundry a long-standing core partner while evaluating 2nm for future products.

On 28 September 2026 Qualcomm's Senior Vice President and Head of Mobile Handsets, Chris Patrick, confirmed the company is "conducting in-depth work regarding Samsung's 2nm process technology" and described the relationship between the two firms as a "close partnership." Patrick said Qualcomm is "currently in the stage of understanding and evaluating" how it might use Samsung's 2nm node for future products, and that Samsung Foundry is "a long-standing core partner of Qualcomm and will remain an important partner in the future."

This clarification comes after recent speculation that some Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips might be manufactured on Samsung's 2nm process. Those chips are made by TSMC, and the earlier rumor did not materialize. Patrick's remarks, however, appeared to place Qualcomm's ties with Samsung on a similar footing to its long-running relationship with TSMC.

Partnership and memory collaboration

Patrick also praised Samsung Electronics as Qualcomm's "strongest partner globally" in the mobile business, saying the companies have an alliance built over decades. He noted that Qualcomm and Samsung have worked together toward the commercialization of LPDDR6 memory. LPDDR6 is the next-generation low-power DRAM standard for mobile devices, and engineering teams from both companies are addressing the technical complexities involved in its introduction.
