Fans keep circling one question: will Cable show up in Deadpool 4? The short answer is — maybe. The long answer is messier.
Josh Brolin first exploded onto the Deadpool franchise in 2018, playing the time-traveling, gruff antihero who stole scenes opposite Ryan Reynolds. He became a cornerstone of Deadpool 2, but he was notably absent from Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024 — Marvel's first formal step into Deadpool's mainstream cinematic world.
Tensions between wishful casting and reality surfaced again after a mid-2026 report suggested Reynolds wanted an ensemble moment in Deadpool 4 that would include Cable, Wolverine and Storm. Exciting in theory. Unconfirmed in practice. No studio statement, no signed deal. Just speculation and hopeful chatter across social channels.
Then came Rob Liefeld, one of Deadpool and Cable's creators, speaking to The Direct. He welcomed the idea of Brolin returning but was blunt about the unknowns. Brolin, Liefeld noted, has built a career that frees him from comic-book dependence. He works with A-list directors and picks projects from a very different table now.

Brolin doesn’t need superhero films to keep his career thriving.
That reality changes the calculus. Even if the role appeals to him, scheduling and priorities matter. Brolin already has other projects lined up, including the much-discussed Whalefall, and he’s the kind of actor filmmakers seek out rather than the other way around. Liefeld admitted as much: the creator would love to see Cable return under Brolin's watch, but he can’t promise it will happen.
Still, nothing is closed. Brolin has hinted before that he wouldn’t rule out revisiting Cable. Writers and showrunners have plenty of story room to expand the character. If the studio and the actor find common ground, Cable could reappear in a way that matters — not just as a cameo, but as an integral piece of the next Deadpool chapter.
And Reynolds? He’s clearly attached to the Deadpool identity for the long haul. Liefeld compared that kind of longevity to actors who keep returning to the same iconic parts, decade after decade. Could Cable slip back into that orbit? Maybe. Will it be soon? That remains the big, tempting question.
So keep an eye on casting updates and industry whispers. If you want Cable back, now is the perfect time to make your voice heard — on social feeds, in fan forums, and wherever Deadpool chatter thrives.
