If your October watchlist needed a new obsession, Disney has just handed it to you. Amid classic spooky picks like Hocus Pocus (1993), The Nightmare Before Christmas and the short Toy Story of Terror, a fresh teen witch drama has crept up the charts and refused to leave.

Disney announced on social media that Coven Academy will return for a second season after racking up strong viewership and warm reviews. The message was short and teasing: get ready for more magic—season two is on the way.

Created by Tim Federle, Coven Academy unfolds inside an elite boarding school where three teenage witches and their enchanted counterparts learn to wield power, and where secrecy can be fatal. Power functions like currency. Romance is a liability. Ancient supernatural feuds lie just beneath the school’s manicured lawns. The first season spans 21 episodes and centers on characters caught between forbidden loves and battles that could cost them everything as they decide how far they’ll go to protect their town.

The ensemble includes Malina Weissman, Malachi Barton, Jordan Leftwich, Ora Duplass, Louis Treshar, Tiffany Thiessen and Devon Sawa, whose performances helped the show connect quickly with teens and genre fans alike. Speaking to Variety, Malina Weissman said, “I’m really excited for season two. The first season lets you meet the world and understand what everyone carries. Season two is where you live in that world and watch choices actually change people.” She added that identity is the show’s core, and she hopes the characters keep making both the right and wrong choices that shape their paths.

Numbers tell part of the story. Disney reports that Coven Academy hit 20.3 million hours watched worldwide across Disney+ and Hulu within three weeks of its premiere. The debut episode’s clips also circulated on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, contributing to that tally. Nielsen data flagged the series as the most-streamed online show among 12–17-year-olds during its premiere weekend.

Critics have been unusually kind: the show scored a rare 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ critic meter, while audience reviews sit at 72 percent—an indication that Coven Academy has ignited conversation even as fans debate its darker turns. For viewers hoping the sophomore season preserves what made season one click while expanding the stakes, the renewal is welcome news.

No official release date for season two has been announced, but season one is available to stream now on Disney+. Keep your broomstick ready; this one is only getting started.
