Is Marvel Making Alpha Flight with Ryan Reynolds?

A distinctly Canadian squad might be marching into the Marvel fold. Whispers circulating on X claim Marvel Studios is developing a project centered on Alpha Flight — and that Ryan Reynolds could be more than a cameo: he may be writing the screenplay.

The report originated from Marvel Updates, which cited CartierFilms as its source. No statement has come from Marvel Studios or Reynolds to confirm the rumor. Details are thin. Even the format is unclear — film, series, or something else entirely?

Is this linked to Deadpool 4? Fans are asking. The connection remains speculative. Alpha Flight and Wolverine share a long comic-book history, so any crossover would make narrative sense. Still, there is no solid evidence tying this project to the next Deadpool installment.

For readers who need a quick primer: Alpha Flight first appeared in 1979 in The Uncanny X-Men #120. Created as Canada’s premier superhero team, they were introduced to bring Wolverine back north of the border. The roster reads like a who’s who of oddball, powerful figures — Guardian, Northstar, Aurora, Sasquatch, Shaman, Snowbird and Puck among them — each with unique abilities, and several identified as mutants.

The team’s stories frequently intersect with Department H, a fictional Canadian government program, and with the wider X-Men mythos. That makes Alpha Flight a tempting vehicle for Marvel to broaden the MCU’s mutant presence without immediately rebooting established X-Men threads.

Reynolds enters the conversation because he has publicly discussed wanting to write something group-focused within the Marvel ecosystem. In April 2024 he said he had ideas for Deadpool’s return but preferred the character as part of an ensemble rather than the lone center of attention — a comment that naturally sent fans hunting for a team-based project.

At this stage, treat the Alpha Flight story as a rumor until Marvel confirms anything official. No prior live-action Alpha Flight adaptation has been released, so whether this becomes a landmark MCU expansion or simply another industry whisper remains to be seen.
