Boreham Motorworks Revives the Iconic Ford Escort RS with High-Performance Continuation Model

Boreham Motorworks, a British automotive company, has announced the revival of the legendary Ford Escort RS. This officially licensed continuation model, limited to 150 units, combines classic design with modern engineering to offer a unique driving experience.

Design and Engineering

The new Escort RS, referred to as a "Continumod," is built from the ground up without using donor vehicles. Each car features a continuation chassis number approved by Ford, ensuring authenticity. The design retains the essence of the original Mk1 RS while incorporating subtle modern touches. Notable exterior updates include the removal of quarter bumpers and main indicators, the addition of LED headlights styled to resemble taped-up race car lamps, a billet-machined aluminum front grille, and updated door handles, mirrors, and tail lights. The 15-inch alloy wheels pay homage to the classic four-spoke RS design.

Performance and Specifications

Customers have two engine options:

1. 1.8-Liter Twin-Cam Engine: Produces 185 horsepower and is paired with a four-speed synchromesh straight-cut transmission.
2. 2.1-Liter Four-Cylinder Engine: Capable of revving up to 10,000 rpm, delivering 300 horsepower. This engine features forged steel conrods, a billet crankshaft, and is mated to a five-speed dog-leg manual gearbox.

Both configurations send power to the rear wheels via an ATB limited-slip differential, with upgraded brakes ensuring optimal stopping power. The target weight for the vehicle is 800 kg, achieved through the use of carbon fiber for body panels and interior components, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio comparable to that of a supercar.

Interior and Features

The interior blends minimalist design with modern amenities. It includes air conditioning, heated screens, a deep-dished three-spoke steering wheel, and modern bucket seats trimmed in Alcantara. Optional features include a roll cage, four-point racing harnesses, and a carbon fiber storage box for race helmets. 

Production and Availability

Production is set to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with each unit priced from £295,000. The public debut is scheduled for the summer of 2025. Each car comes with a two-year, 20,000-mile warranty.
