Mitsubishi’s rally heritage is legendary, but the idea of a Ralliart-badged SUV has only gained traction in recent years. After showcasing the stunning Vision Ralliart concept at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Show, fans have eagerly awaited news of a production version. While an official debut has yet to materialize, hope remains strong among loyalists.
Insider Perspectives: Progress Behind the Scenes
Kentaro Honda, Chief Engineer for the Mitsubishi Outlander, has hinted that a Ralliart variant is more than just a dream. In an interview with Australia’s Drive, Honda revealed that the team continues to draw inspiration from Mitsubishi’s robust rally history, especially from participations like the Asia Cross-Country Rally. "We are still investigating. We attended the Asia Cross-Country Rally, so based on that rally experience, we’re considering how—or when—to develop the Ralliart version," Honda explained.
Shaun Westcott, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia, is also fueling expectations. He confirmed that several studies are underway to bring a high-performance Outlander to life, with adaptations potentially made for individual market preferences. Westcott went even further, dismissing superficial sticker packages in favor of meaningful enhancements that reflect true Ralliart engineering. "If Australia adopts the Ralliart, we want to see real vehicle upgrades—not just appearance packages," he asserted.
Performance and Technical Specifications: What to Expect
The current Mitsubishi Outlander, introduced in 2021, benefitted from a significant refresh earlier this year. Updates included a robust plug-in hybrid powertrain delivering 302 hp (225 kW/306 PS), a substantial 22.7 kWh battery for extended EV driving, and revised suspension for improved ride and handling dynamics.
A genuine Outlander Ralliart model could take these advancements even further, featuring increased horsepower, sharper all-wheel-drive calibration, sport-tuned suspension, robust brakes, and possibly exclusive performance tires.
