Nissan has unveiled the Aura Nismo RS concept — a compact, furious-looking hot hatch that promises blistering torque and race-inspired handling. Billed by the company as more than a mere show car, this aggressive little machine may join the Nismo performance family in limited production, joining other planned high-performance models from Nissan's tuning arm.
Hybrid heart, electric punch
Engineers performed a dramatic transplant: the hybrid drive and all-wheel-drive system from the much larger X-Trail Nismo were miniaturized and placed inside the Aura's compact body. At the core is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine that acts primarily as a generator, paired with two electric motors and a 2.1 kWh battery. How it stacks up and market positioning
On paper the Aura Nismo RS doesn't out-gun a Volkswagen Golf R in peak horsepower, but its instant electric torque and compact weight could make it a formidable competitor in short bursts and corner exits. Because the Aura nameplate has previously been used primarily in Japan, its wider availability remains uncertain. If it reaches production, it would likely complement other Nismo offerings such as a sportier Micra and possibly future GT-R variants, broadening Nissan's performance lineup.
