Lotus opens orders for the Eletre X-Hybrid — and it’s a premium proposition
British marque Lotus has started taking orders for the new Eletre X-Hybrid SUV in key European markets. The model marks Lotus's first application of its X-Hybrid architecture, a plug-in hybrid system that combines a combustion engine, battery, generator and electric motors in a single package. Pricing begins at €96,990 for the entry-level X H550 and rises to €125,254 for the range-topping X H1000 (roughly $112,700 and $145,500 respectively, depending on exchange rates and local taxes).

What the X-Hybrid system delivers
The Eletre X blends battery-electric capability with the long-range practicality of a combustion engine. Key technical highlights include:
- A 70 kWh battery pack that enables up to 217 miles (350 km) of pure electric driving.
- A 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that primarily acts as a range extender and generator, while also capable of propelling the vehicle independently. It draws fuel from a 52-liter (13.7-gallon) tank.
- Ultra-fast DC charging: with a 350 kW charger, the battery can be replenished from 20% to 80% in about nine minutes.
These specs position the Eletre X as a practical long-distance performer: in hybrid mode the combined range reaches an impressive 746 miles (1,200 km), addressing range anxiety for drivers who regularly travel long distances.

Performance: two very different faces of the same SUV
Lotus offers the Eletre X in two distinct outputs:
- X H550: 542 horsepower and around 935 Nm of torque (same reported torque across the range), tuned for brisk performance and slightly better economy.
- X H1000: the halo variant develops up to 939 hp and 935 Nm of torque, sprinting to 62 mph in approximately 3.3 seconds when fitted with Lotus’s bespoke Pirelli P Zero 5 LTS tires.
The X H1000 is clearly aimed at buyers seeking supercar-level acceleration wrapped in an SUV body, while the H550 targets enthusiasts who prefer strong performance with a lighter specification and lower price entry point.
Pricing, markets and availability
Order books are now open in several European countries. Official list prices do not include optional equipment, taxes, registration fees or delivery charges — customers should expect the final on-the-road figure to be higher once options and local levies are applied.

Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter across Lotus’s primary European markets. The United Kingdom will follow later, pending completion of right-hand-drive homologation. Lotus has indicated US pricing and availability will be announced in due course.
"The Eletre X demonstrates Lotus's commitment to performance hybrids," said one industry analyst. "It blends electric efficiency with combustion range in a way that suits cross-border European buyers and those who want a high-performance SUV for long trips."
How it sits in the market
The Eletre X competes in the emerging luxury performance plug-in hybrid SUV segment, where buyers expect cutting-edge technology, high power figures and usable electric range. Lotus’s approach — combining a sizable battery with a turbocharged range extender — targets buyers who demand both electric-only commuting and the reassurance of multi-hundred-mile trips without frequent charging stops.

Highlights:
- Strong EV-only range for daily use
- Ultra-fast charge capability for rapid turnaround
- Two-tier performance strategy (H550 vs H1000) to broaden appeal
For buyers seeking a distinct alternative to full-electric luxury SUVs, the Eletre X offers a compelling mixed-powertrain choice: exotic performance credentials with a pragmatic long-range solution. Expect configurator options, luxury interiors and performance add-ons to push final prices well above the announced list figures for many buyers.
