McLaren's Bold Plan: Hybrid Supercar, SUV and 2+2 by 2028

McLaren has laid out an ambitious product roadmap under new ownership and management, committing to expand beyond its traditional supercar lineup with a hybrid mid-engined supercar, a four door luxury SUV and a front engine 2+2 grand tourer by 2028.

Roadmap and strategic shift

Following a private dealer briefing, McLaren revealed a busy development program that reflects recent changes in ownership and leadership. The company says it will introduce at least one new product per year through 2028 as part of a strategy to raise brand prestige and global standing while retaining the brand's focus on driving excitement, according to CEO Nick Collins.

P34 mid engine hybrid supercar

The first product in the push is the P34, a longer mid engine supercar positioned above the Artura and intended to replace the 750S. It uses a 3.0 liter twin turbo V6 combined with a hybrid system. McLaren says the petrol engine and the gearbox were developed entirely in house. The combined output for the hybrid powertrain is 810 hp and 1085 Nm of torque.

Design cues reference the legendary McLaren F1, with the six cylinder power unit visible beneath a glass cover. The cabin is described as featuring premium leather trim, a large infotainment display and a modern digital instrument cluster. McLaren expects to introduce the P34 next year, estimates the price at about $315,000, plans to begin deliveries from late summer 2027 and aims to sell roughly 1,000 units in the first year.

SUV P47 and front engine 2+2 grand tourer

The most striking development is McLaren's confirmed entry into the ultra luxury SUV segment with the P47, targeted for 2028. Dealers who have seen a clay model report proportions larger than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, muscular stance and very large 24 inch wheels. The P47 will be a four door, five seat layout.

In parallel, McLaren is developing a front engine grand tourer with a 2+2 seating arrangement that is expected to serve customers wanting a more practical day to day car without stepping up to an SUV. That model is likely to assume the role currently occupied by the GT and expand McLaren's reach into more conventional luxury and grand touring markets.
