Colin Farrell doesn't mince words: he read The Batman: Part 2 from page one to the last line and was stunned. He told ScreenRant the screenplay, penned by Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, is not just darker in tone but narratively daring — at times terrifying, at times heartbreakingly tender.

Reeves, he says, has written something that lands both as a psychological weight and an emotional piece. Short sentence. Big feeling.

Farrell says he appears in only two scenes, allowing him to enjoy the rest of the film as an audience member. That smaller footprint explains why the Penguin feels less central this time compared with the first movie and Farrell's own spinoff series, and it opens space for other characters to take the spotlight.

Who moves into that space? Reeves has reportedly added a string of high-profile names: Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch join returning cast members. Early reports suggest Stan may take on Harvey Dent — possibly as Two-Face — and hints have surfaced that Johansson could play Gilda Dent while Dance might portray Christopher Dent. If true, the Dent family could form the dark core of the new story. Intriguing, right?

From the 2022 roster, Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman, with Jeffrey Wright back as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál and Gil Pérez Abraham as Officer Martinez. Rumors about Barry Keoghan reprising a Joker-like presence have circulated, but nothing official has been confirmed.

The original The Batman proved both a critical and commercial win: made on a roughly $200 million budget, it grossed about $772 million worldwide and scored solid marks on Rotten Tomatoes — high sixties among audiences and strong approval from critics. Important detail: The Batman: Part 2 is part of Reeves' self-contained Elseworlds strand rather than James Gunn's shared DCEU, the same creative world that produced HBO's The Penguin series.

All of this points to a franchise that can grow in unexpected directions. Farrell's limited screen time doesn't close doors; if Reeves wants him back in a bigger capacity, there's room in this universe to bring him forward again — maybe in surprising ways.
