Luis de la Rosa, a 34-year-old Mexican animator and illustrator known for his work on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Space Jam: A New Legacy, died after being struck by a high-speed train near Annecy's city-center station while attending the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. He lived in Vancouver and was in France to present his latest project, Ash Raider World, at the festival market.
Festival organizers confirmed the news on Friday. Local police have opened an official investigation to determine the exact circumstances. French newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré was first to report the incident, saying emergency crews responded Wednesday night to the rail lines and found de la Rosa carrying a festival identification badge.
