At D23, Disney surprised fans by pulling its stories toward the shadows. Not the cartoonish kind of dark—this is spellbound, thorn-and-moonlight romance, the sort of tale that makes you check the locks and then read on.
The company unveiled a new fantasy webcomic line called Disney Cursed Love, set to land on Webtoon. The idea is simple and delicious: take the studio's most famous love stories, turn up the magic, grit the edges with curses, and let new characters fight for — and against — their hearts.
First up is The Curse of a Forsaken Heart, a webtoon debut written by best-selling author Emily McIntyre with art by Samiro. Familiar faces from Beauty and the Beast thread through the narrative, but McIntyre re-centers the drama around two original leads, Emberlynne and Lucan. The series will appear digitally on Webtoon first, with print editions planned for 2027.

Emberlynne and Lucan are, she teases, the last two people who should fall in love. Enemies at first, they bicker and banter; the cracks in their defenses reveal something messy and stubborn underneath. They must unravel a brutal curse. They must decide whether to cling to the grudge or to one another. Heartbeats and danger. High stakes. Moments that make you want to shout at the page.
Expect black magic, dreadful hexes, and sweeping adventure braided with epic romance. It’s not a sanitised retelling. It’s a mood—stormy, spellbound, and occasionally cruel—where happily-ever-after is earned, not handed out.
Disney and Webtoon already have a long-running collaboration, with more than twenty titles published under a dedicated Disney space in the app. The pair are even developing a new digital comics platform together, signaling that this is more than a one-off experiment; it’s a renewed push into serialized, accessible comic storytelling.
Exact Webtoon release date has not yet been announced.
Keep an eye on D23 updates and the Webtoon channel; when fairy tales learn to be ruthless and romantic at once, you’ll want to be first in line.
