Hulu has quietly handed Furious a second life — and viewers have been the loudest advocates. The eight-episode show's audience has climbed week after week since its July 27 premiere, and the streamer confirmed a season two renewal as the finale approaches on Monday, August 31.
At the center of the series is Emmy Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black, a woman carved from equal parts stubborn intelligence and brittle grief. Opposite her, Lola Petticrew inhabits a chillingly composed serial killer whose presence rewrites every moral line on screen. The show tracks two women on converging paths; their lives knot together, and what seemed certain begins to blur.
Furious wears its influences plainly. It borrows tones from Bob Rafelson’s 1987 psychological thriller Black Widow, leaning into tension and psychological cat-and-mouse rather than straightforward procedural beats. Hulu first ordered the series in March 2025, and the casting has been a talking point ever since: Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Scott McNairy round out the principal ensemble, while Jake Lacy, Rob Delaney, Hope Davis, Rob Yang and Steve V. turn up in notable guest turns.

Critical response has been warm. Allison Herman, Variety’s senior TV critic, called the first season a powerful study of how women are sacrificed by cultural narratives — and what happens when they refuse those scripts. She praised the cast as luminous and said the show delivers an affecting portrait of consequence when women step outside the roles they’ve been handed.
Behind the scenes, Furious is the brainchild of Elizabeth Meriwether, who created, wrote and serves as executive producer. Emmy Rossum also has an executive producer credit for Composition 8, joined in that capacity by Ronald Bass, Matt Olmstead and Sam Hoffman. Brian Kirk directed the first two episodes and is among the executive producers. The series is produced by 20th Television and Searchlight Television.
Renewals are rarely just about ratings. They’re about momentum, buzz and the storytelling threads that promise more to come. With its slow-burn rise and a finale poised to land, Furious has earned the luxury of another season to complicate loyalties, sharpen motives and push its characters further into morally gray terrain.
Will season two double down on psychological dread or pivot into new territory? For now, the only safe bet is that the show will keep asking the questions that make viewers keep watching.
