Rebecca Ferguson is stepping out of a bunker and into an airplane aisle. Short hair, long stare — same actor, very different mood.

Since 2023 she's been anchoring Silo, the tense Apple TV adaptation of Hugh Howey's trilogy, playing engineer Juliette Nichols as she peels back the reasons people live beneath the surface. Season three is airing now, and Apple TV has already greenlit a final chapter — production on that last season wrapped in March.

Now, per Deadline, Ferguson has signed on to Honeymoon / Funeral, a romantic comedy that pairs her with Greta Lee. The setup is deliciously simple: two women meet on a flight from Los Angeles to London. One boards for a honeymoon she no longer shares with a fiancé. The other is heading to her mother’s funeral. A spontaneous decision turns into a week-long odyssey. Heartbreak. Mourning. Laughter. Odd companions.

Filming is currently underway in London. Nahnatchka Khan directs from a script by Julia Becknell; both serve as producers alongside Jennifer Carreras. MRC is producing the movie and FilmNation will be shopping for a distributor during the Toronto International Film Festival market this month. It’s a small-indie-meets-studio setup that often leads to surprising creative freedom.

This marks Ferguson’s first foray into straight-up rom-com territory after a recent run of science-fiction roles. She remains tethered to the genre too — she’s returning to the Dune universe in Dune: Part Three, due in December — but Honeymoon / Funeral signals a deliberate tonal detour.

Ferguson and Lee previously shared the screen in A House of Dynamite, and their reunion promises a chemistry that can carry both barbs and tenderness. No additional cast members have been announced and no release date is set. Keep an eye on festival dispatches; the story that starts on a plane might find its audience first in a market screening, then in multiplexes.

Unexpected pairings often yield the best cinematic surprises — are you ready for Ferguson’s softer, sharper turn?
