Fujifilm has announced the Instax Mini Evo 2, a hybrid instant camera that pairs a larger 4.5-inch rear display with a new "Immersive Movie" recording mode that captures the four seconds leading up to the shutter press.
What the Evo 2 changes and how it works
The Mini Evo 2 uses a digital sensor to capture images and an integrated printer to produce 3 by 2 inch instant prints. The built-in printer outputs at 600 dots per inch. Photographers can review and edit images on the camera's screen before committing to a physical print by pulling the printer's mechanical lever.

The rear display is now 4.5 inches, up from 3 inches on the previous model, to make menu navigation and framing easier. A new Expanded View shows areas beyond the visible frame edges on the screen without changing the sensor's actual angle of view, helping users compose more precisely while the captured image remains unchanged.
Immersive Movie records the four seconds immediately before the shutter is pressed, providing a short pre-roll clip saved alongside stills. Using this feature requires a separate microSD card for storage.

Bing Lim, head of imaging at Fujifilm North America, said: "The instax Evo series remains an extremely popular part of the instax family, so it made sense to take all the strengths of the original Evo model and upgrade them. The new Evo 2 capabilities give makers more options for photography and video and create a creative and meaningful experience."

The new camera retains the previous model's ten lens effects and ten film effects, which can be combined to produce 100 distinct visual styles. Additional features include a front-facing selfie mirror, a macro shooting mode, exposure compensation, and physical analogue dials for adjusting white balance. The Instax Mini Evo 2 is priced at 290 USD.
