Suzuki's first India-made electric SUV lands in the UK
The Suzuki e Vitara has officially gone on sale in the United Kingdom, marking the Japanese marque's first fully electric model produced in India. Related to the Toyota Urban Cruiser, the e Vitara aims to bring an affordable electric crossover option to European buyers — and it's entering a crowded market where pricing and practicality matter as much as range.
Suzuki offers the e Vitara in two trims, Motion and Ultra, with two battery capacities: 49 kWh or 61 kWh. Buyers can also opt for AllGrip-e, Suzuki's new electric all-wheel-drive system, available only with the larger battery pack. First customer deliveries began earlier this month as Suzuki looks to carve out a place in the rapidly evolving electric SUV segment.

Design and interior: familiar yet fresh
At a glance, the e Vitara is unmistakably Suzuki: compact proportions, short overhangs and a long 2.7-meter wheelbase that improves packaging and interior space. It remains clearly distinct from conventional petrol Vitara models, with subtle EV-specific cues and a tidy, modern silhouette. Motion models roll on 18-inch alloys while Ultra trims get 19-inch wheels as standard.
Inside, Suzuki keeps things user-friendly with an integrated infotainment display, a floating center console and a D-shaped steering wheel. The cabin mixes tactile physical controls (including climate switches) with contemporary touches such as 12-color ambient lighting. Buyers can choose a tan fabric/synthetic leather theme, and the Ultra adds optional paint choices like Land Breeze Green Pearl Metallic and Splendid Silver Pearl Metallic.
Key specifications and charging
- Motor outputs: 106 kW (142 hp) for 49 kWh models; 128 kW (172 hp) for 61 kWh 2WD variants. AllGrip-e AWD pairs a 48 kW rear e-axle for a combined 135 kW (181 hp).
- Battery chemistry: lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for both packs, chosen for cost-efficiency and longevity.
- Charging: 11 kW AC full charge in about 5.5 hours; 7 kW AC in around nine hours. DC fast charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 45 minutes.
These specs place the e Vitara in the compact electric crossover category where efficiency, pricing and real-world usability are decisive.

Pricing, launch offers and market positioning
Suzuki has priced the e Vitara aggressively for the UK market. Thanks to a limited-time launch incentive called Suzuki Granted, buyers save up to £3,750 (roughly $5,000), and the brand includes a complimentary Ohme home charger with qualifying purchases until December 31. That brings the entry-level 49 kWh Motion 2WD to £26,249 — approximately $35k at recent exchange rates.
There are five main configurations:
- Motion 2WD: 49 kWh or 61 kWh
- Ultra 2WD: 61 kWh
- Motion 4WD (AllGrip-e): 61 kWh only
- Ultra 4WD (AllGrip-e): 61 kWh only
The top-spec e Vitara lists at £34,049 (a little over $45k), keeping it well below many premium EV crossovers but competitive against mass-market alternatives.

How it stacks up
Comparison with the Tesla Model Y is inevitable given headline prices, but context matters: the e Vitara is significantly smaller and targets a different buyer. Where the Model Y competes in the compact family SUV class with larger interior volume and range, the e Vitara focuses on city-friendly dimensions, affordability and practical EV features like LFP batteries and a usable charging curve.
"The e Vitara isn't trying to out-Tesla Tesla," says a Suzuki product spokesperson. "It's built to be an accessible, capable electric crossover that fits urban life and daily driving needs."
For buyers prioritizing value, a compact footprint and a familiar dealer network, the Suzuki e Vitara looks like a sensible contender — especially with the current UK launch incentives. As European EV uptake grows, models like this could play a key role in broadening adoption among mainstream drivers.
Highlights:
- Two trims and two battery sizes
- Optional AllGrip-e AWD
- LFP chemistry for lower cost and durability
- UK launch price from £26,249 with incentives
Whether the e Vitara will sway buyers away from larger crossovers remains to be seen, but Suzuki’s entry is timely: affordable, practical and thoughtfully specified for the city-to-suburban electric buyer.

LFP cells are smart for cost and longevity, but 45min 10-80% only if you find a fast charger. Real world range in cold weather? anyone tried it yet
