A Stylish Farewell: Exterior and Interior Highlights
This Ultimate Edition is offered exclusively in Championship White, a nod to Honda’s motorsports legacy. Contrasting red stripes accentuate the hood and side profile, while the roof is finished in a sleek, glossy black for a bolder look. The sense of exclusivity continues with a carbon fiber rear wing, enhancing both aerodynamics and aesthetics.
Step inside, and the performance-inspired upgrades continue. The interior boasts carbon fiber door sills, a reworked center console, and distinctive red floor mats featuring a metal Type R emblem. For added flair, illuminated Type R logos project in red and white from the front doors. Buyers will also receive a commemorative gift box that includes a carbon fiber keyring, an individually numbered badge, and a bespoke car cover—an array of details that underline this model’s unique place in Honda history.
Powertrain and Performance: Uncompromised Thrills
Under the hood, the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition retains the fearsome turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering a robust 324 horsepower and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. Paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, this iconic hot hatch rockets from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.4 seconds. Market Positioning and The End of an Icon
Sadly, the Civic Type R is being retired from Europe not by choice but because of evolving automotive industry challenges. As Hannah Swift, Honda’s Head of European Strategy and Product, explains, increasingly stringent emissions regulations across Europe are forcing Honda to adapt its lineup, leading to the discontinuation of high-emission favorites like the CTR.
Adding to the disappointment, the Civic Type R’s price has soared in several European markets, impacted by steep taxes for high-emission vehicles. In the Netherlands, for example, the standard model crosses the $100,000 threshold—making it a rare sight on European roads.
Looking Ahead: Honda’s Future in Sporty Cars
While the Civic Type R takes its final bow, European enthusiasts can look forward to Honda’s evolving performance lineup. The upcoming Honda Prelude is set to debut in the first half of 2026, reimagined as a sporty 2+2 coupe with a hybrid powertrain and simulated gear shifts. While it may not fully fill the void left by the CTR, it signals Honda’s commitment to keeping driving fun alive in an era of electrification.
The departure of the Honda Civic Type R marks a bittersweet milestone for both Honda and driving purists across Europe. The Ultimate Edition stands as a fitting tribute to an automotive legend, celebrated for its exhilarating performance and unmistakable style.
