LEGO builds a life-size Koenigsegg — 327,000 bricks strong
LEGO's design team has pushed the limits of LEGO Technic by constructing a full-size replica of the Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear using more than 327,000 pieces. Finished in black with orange accents, the life-size supercar took roughly seven and a half months to complete and combines realistic styling with unexpected structural upgrades.
From plastic bricks to a roadworthy test mule
Unlike earlier Technic show cars, this model incorporates a custom steel chassis and a full FIA-standard roll cage. The project wasn't just about looks: engineers aimed for speed. In field trials the brick-built hypercar reached 111 km/h — well beyond the team's initial 100 km/h target — and the finished model weighs about 1,800 kg.

"It was the most complex build in the shortest time among all LEGO Technic cars," says Lubor Zelenka, head of design for LEGO. "The goal was to build a car capable of high speed. We aimed for 100 km/h."
Key specifications and highlights
- Number of pieces: 327,000+ LEGO Technic elements
- Build time: ~7.5 months
- Top speed in tests: 111 km/h
- Curb weight (plastic structure): ~1,800 kg
- Custom steel chassis and FIA-spec roll cage
These facts underscore how LEGO is evolving from display models to functional engineering demonstrations that blur the line between toy and automotive prototype.

1:8 scale Technic release — detailed and collectible
Alongside the full-size build LEGO introduced the sixth entry in its Ultimate/Technic lineup: a 1:8 scale model comprised of 4,104 pieces, priced at about $450. The detailed kit features a plastic V8 with moving pistons, a 9-speed gearbox, and a Triplex center suspension — elements inspired by Koenigsegg's real engineering. LEGO designers even used parts sourced from other sets to achieve authentic textures and finishes.

Additional model features include Ghost Mode (doors, bonnet and engine cover open), carbon-style wheels, Pirelli tires and race-grade disc brakes, making the set appealing to both adult collectors and car enthusiasts.

Why this matters
Beyond the spectacle, the project highlights cross-industry collaboration: supercar makers and toy engineers are leveraging each other's strengths to reach new audiences. The life-size Sadair's Spear is a marketing and engineering statement, and the 1:8 kit gives fans a chance to own a detailed slice of that achievement.
