Why would Apple add depth? Two hardware suspects sit front and center: camera mechanics and batteries. Rumors point to a variable-aperture main camera on the Pros — a feature that needs more physical space than fixed-aperture modules. Add larger batteries, which users quietly demand for longer real-world life, and the internal layout starts asking for extra room.
