Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8: Faster Chip, Smarter Cover UI

Samsung’s latest clamshell lands with a familiar silhouette but a noticeably sharper brain. Launched at Unpacked in London, the Galaxy Z Flip8 keeps the compact design that fans love while leaning into a faster chipset and smarter software tricks.

Look closely and you won’t see many cosmetic changes. The external shape, hinge behavior and screen sizes mirror last year’s model. What’s new lives under the hood: in the US Samsung ships the Flip8 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, while other regions get the new Exynos 2600. Translation: smoother multitasking, better sustained performance and improved power efficiency for real-world use.

The main display remains a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel at Full HD+ with a 120Hz refresh rate — bright, fluid and ideal for streaming or split-screen apps. The cover screen also stays generously sized at 4.1 inches, an AMOLED surface that now benefits from fresh software ideas designed for quick interactions without unfolding.

Camera hardware is faithful to the recent lineage: a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization and a 12MP ultrawide. Selfies are handled by a 10MP front shooter tucked into the inner display. In short, expect dependable stills and video; the camera gains here are more about smarter processing than dramatic new optics.

Battery capacity is unchanged at 4,300mAh. Charging tops out at 25W wired and 15W wireless — not headline-grabbing, but adequate for a device optimized for compactness. If you’re hunting for a massive battery upgrade, this isn’t it; if you want a pocketable foldable that lasts a day with normal use, it’s still a solid option.

Software is where Samsung is pushing new behavior. One UI 9, built on Android 17, introduces Galaxy AI-powered FlexWindow features so the cover display does more than show notifications. One example: Now Brief brings glanceable snippets to the outer screen, letting you act fast without opening the phone. Little refinements like that change the way you reach for the device.

Connectivity covers current flagships: 5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS and NFC. Durability gets a mention with an IP48 dust and water resistance rating — not invulnerable, but better protection against daily spills and dust ingress than many earlier foldables.

The Flip8 ships in two memory trims — 12GB with either 256GB or 512GB storage — and in Cream, Graphite and Pink finishes. A Mint colorway is exclusive to Samsung’s online store for those who want something a little different.

Put together, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is an evolutionary update: the same pocketable charm, a stronger processor lineup and tighter software that makes the cover screen feel less like an afterthought. The question now is whether those refinements are enough to tempt you to fold open a new routine.
