Dynamic Duo Delayed by Warner Bros. — New Date Set

Robin gets his turn in the spotlight — but fans will have to wait a little longer. The long-awaited animated take on Batman's most famous sidekick, now titled Dynamic Duo, has been pushed back as Warner Bros. reshuffles its 2028 slate.

Warner Bros. has pushed the release from June 30, 2028 to September 22, 2028. The studio believes the new late-September window is a stronger fit for a family animation that can capture both younger viewers heading back to school and older teens and college audiences. Industry reporting also suggests Warner sees crossover potential with fans of stylized superhero animation, the same crowd that embraced the Spider-Verse films.

That change means Dynamic Duo will no longer bump heads with Paramount’s live-action Call of Duty; instead, it will open the same weekend as an unnamed Universal/DreamWorks animated title. And in a related shuffle, Gremlins 3 was moved to October 6, 2028. Studios are clearly playing a strategic game with release dates this year.

Behind the scenes, this is very much a Warner Bros. and DC production, in partnership with 6th & Idaho. The animation is being handled by Swaybox, which is promising a tactile visual approach: a hybrid of physical models and maquettes, stop-motion techniques, and selective CGI. Arthur Mintz is directing, with Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber credited on the latest script. No voice cast has been announced yet, and which other corners of the DC universe will appear remains a mystery.

Story-wise, Dynamic Duo centers on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd — the first and second Robins. But don’t expect a straight comic-book retelling. Reports indicate both characters grow up on the streets before their paths diverge: Dick is taken in by Bruce Wayne and becomes Robin, while Jason eventually aligns with Red Hood. It sounds like the film will explore brotherhood, choices, and the messy line between hero and vigilante.

This will also be the first DC theatrical animated release since League of Super-Pets in 2022, marking a notable return to cinemas for DC’s animated storytelling. Casting and more plot details should surface in the months ahead, so keep an ear out for who will voice Gotham’s most complicated duo.
