GTA VI has already generated $630 million in preorders, Sensor Tower reports, with 6.45 million copies sold before the title has officially launched and before any player has run the game.
Sensor Tower's latest market report says the preorder total reached $630 million across 6.45 million units, achieved fewer than 30 days before the game's scheduled release.
Platform breakdown
The firm’s breakdown shows $468 million of that revenue came from PlayStation sales and $162 million from Xbox, with 74 percent of preorders placed on PlayStation 5. The report describes the disparity as unsurprising given PlayStation 5's lead of roughly 3 to 1 over Xbox consoles this generation.

Despite the gap between platforms, Sensor Tower notes that $162 million on Xbox alone surpasses the lifetime revenue of many high-profile titles.
Industry watchers expect preorder momentum to accelerate closer to release. Analytics firm Newzoo estimated that GTA VI could generate as much as $5.2 billion in sales during its first week on the market.
The preorder figures and platform split above are drawn from Sensor Tower's most recent report and represent sales to date.
