AMD is reportedly developing an optimized follow-up to its forthcoming RDNA 5 GPU architecture, dubbed RDNA 5+, and the new design could arrive in 2029 inside next-generation Ryzen APUs. The detail comes from a NeoGAF post by user Kepler_L2, who says RDNA 5+ will be paired with AMD's Zen 7 "Grimlock" family.
The RDNA 5 architecture itself is expected to land in the 2027 to early 2028 window. RDNA 5+ is presented as an optimized variant rather than a wholly new design, following the pattern set by RDNA 3.5, which tuned RDNA 3 instead of replacing it from the ground up.
AMD's upcoming Medusa APUs are already expected to mix several graphics generations, with RDNA 3.5, RDNA 4m and RDNA 5 all appearing alongside Zen 6 CPU cores. The NeoGAF post suggests Grimlock will bring Zen 7 cores into AMD's APU lineup and update integrated graphics to newer RDNA revisions such as RDNA 5+.

APU focus makes a discrete RDNA 5+ less likely
There is a caveat. The next-generation Radeon discrete lineup based on RDNA 5 has been pushed out, with current expectations placing launch between late 2027 and early 2028 amid global DRAM shortages. That timing makes a separate RDNA 5+ discrete family in 2029 seem unlikely, and supports the idea that RDNA 5+ may be scoped primarily for APUs.
Grimlock CPUs are also said to be AMD's first chips using TSMC's A14 process and the new FOPLP packaging solution. According to prior reporting, those Zen 7 desktop parts are expected to arrive in 2028, positioning RDNA 5+ as a possible graphics upgrade within AMD's APU roadmap rather than an immediate refresh of Radeon discrete cards.
