Tipster Digital Chat Station has posted that an Android smartphone maker is testing a wide-screen candybar handset, and the emoji used in the post has led observers to suspect Xiaomi may be behind the prototype. The tipster did not explicitly name the company, and the report should be read as an unconfirmed leak.
According to the same tip, the device will use a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a sensible choice for the form factor, and is expected to arrive with either a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio, following the approach seen in Huawei's Pura X View.

Other manufacturers are exploring the format
Oppo is also reported to be developing a wide-screen model under its Reno line. That device is tipped to feature a 6.35-inch display, an 8,000mAh battery, dual 200MP rear cameras, and the MediaTek Dimensity 9600M chipset. Other brands including Doogee and Coolpad have introduced their own wide-screen phones, while Huawei is said to be preparing a more affordable wide-screen model under its new Osta sub-brand.
The market move appears to be driven by experiments with longer, narrower displays across several manufacturers rather than a single-vendor trend. For now, Xiaomi's involvement rests on the tipster's post and the interpretive emoji; the rest of the details remain unverified.
Huawei is rumoured to be preparing a more affordable wide-screen device under its new Osta sub-brand.
