iPhone 18 could become first non-Pro iPhone at $999

The iPhone 18 could mark a shift in Apple's lineup if a recent leak from prolific tipster Digital Chat Station is accurate: the standard model would start at $999, making it the first non-Pro iPhone to break the $1,000 threshold. That figure is technically $999, but the practical effect is the same.

DCS did not specify whether this represents a $100 jump from an $899 price or some other adjustment relative to previous models. The possibility still sharpens a trend consumers saw with the iPhone 17, which initially arrived at $799 before its price was raised to $899 in September 2026.

If the leak is accurate, the standard iPhone 18 would start at $999.

Expected specs and timing

Beyond price, the same reports sketch out a familiar hardware picture for the non-Pro model: a 6.3-inch OLED display at roughly 1.5K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, a standard Dynamic Island design and Apple’s next-generation 2nm A20 chipset. The rumor mill also flags a larger battery as a likely update, a modest but practical change for everyday users.

Apple is also said to be expanding the 2027 lineup: the iPhone 18 would arrive in the first months of 2027 alongside an iPhone Air 2 and a budget-oriented iPhone 18e. Until Apple confirms specifications and pricing, these details remain provisional and should be read as reported claims rather than final facts.

Whatever the final numbers, the leak highlights how Apple’s pricing strategy continues to evolve across its tiers and how that evolution could change expectations for what a non-Pro iPhone now represents.
