Google has confirmed that detachable members of its Google Book family will arrive soon, announcing the new device category during the Android Dev Summit 2026.
Google Book platform scope and product strategy
In the keynote, Google said the Google Book platform covers a range of large-display devices, from foldables to convertibles and now detachable machines. At the product reveal, four of the five devices introduced were foldable, underscoring the company’s phased approach to expanding the line.

Current devices, OS behavior and the first detachable details
Google pointed to the Acer Google Book 14, priced at $899, as the only convertible laptop in the announced lineup. That model supports laptop, tent and tablet configurations. Googlebook OS currently opens full-screen apps in vertical orientation, while the system home screen, overview and app menu continue to run only in landscape, and the company said work to enable full tablet support is ongoing.
Reports indicate the first detachable running Googlebook OS will likely be produced by Lenovo. That detachable is said to include:
- a removable keyboard
- a dedicated stand
- a Glowbar light strip
Google and partners describe the detachable as aiming for a more desktoplike experience than typical Android tablets.
