According to The Information, Apple’s home robot hardware was completed about two years ago, but software problems could delay its launch until 2028.
The Information, citing people familiar with the matter, says Apple is targeting a best-case launch in 2027 but the schedule may slip a year.
Software engineers have requested delays and in recent months worked to narrow the first release to FaceTime and a few specific smart-home tasks such as turning lights on.
Sources say the hardware was finished roughly two years ago. The primary bottleneck is software that must coordinate screen movement, environment sensing, video communication and automated execution of home commands.

That mismatch has produced internal tensions: hardware teams are pushing for a faster release while software teams want to reduce features and take more time to finish the product.
Apple’s internal codename for the project is J595.
Several former Apple employees expect the commercial name could be HomeView Ultra to link the device to the HomeView smart display Apple unveiled last month.
The report says the robotic model will combine a display, a movable arm, a sensor suite and multiple cameras, creating greater complexity and cost than the standard HomeView display.
