Introducing the Isuzu D-Max EV: A Leap Forward in Electric Pickups
After much anticipation following its debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show, Isuzu is set to open pre-orders for its all-electric D-Max EV in the United Kingdom. Known for its rugged reliability, the D-Max now embraces electrification with two distinct trim levels—eDL40 and eV-Cross—each powered by the same advanced electric powertrain.
Design and Trim Levels: Modern Features Meet Utility
eDL40: Premium Essentials
The entry-level eDL40 trim establishes itself as a high-quality contender in the electric pickup segment. Inside the spacious cabin, drivers are greeted by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system alongside a 7-inch digital driver display. Premium touches such as leather upholstery, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate control are complemented by a top-tier six-speaker sound system. Chrome exterior accents, bi-LED headlights, and intelligent parking sensors further refine this pickup’s appeal, while a unique rough terrain mode ensures the D-Max EV is ready for challenging environments.
eV-Cross: Elevated Style and Technology
Stepping up to the flagship eV-Cross trim brings a suite of enhancements. The infotainment screen grows to 9 inches, providing more intuitive control over media and navigation. Dark gray styling replaces the chrome accents for a sportier, more contemporary look. An auto-dimming rearview mirror and a superior eight-speaker audio system create a more comfortable and immersive driving experience, while all core features from the eDL40 trim remain.
Electric Powertrain and Performance
Under the body lies a robust 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with dual electric motors, producing a combined output of 188 horsepower (140 kW) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft) of torque. This configuration enables the D-Max EV to accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in just 10.1 seconds and reach a top speed exceeding 80 mph (129 km/h).
Built for real-world practicality, the D-Max EV offers a WLTP-rated driving range of 163 miles (263 km) per charge. Its off-road capabilities are equally impressive, boasting approach and departure angles of 30.5 and 24.2 degrees, a ground clearance of 210 mm (8.3 inches), and a wading depth up to 600 mm (23.6 inches). With full-time 4x4, the electric D-Max can tow an industry-leading 3.5 tons (7,716 lbs) and carries a payload of over one ton (2,205 lbs), making it one of the most capable electric pickups on the market.
Market Positioning, Pricing, and Availability
Isuzu positions the D-Max EV as a premium offering in the burgeoning UK electric pickup market. Pricing for the D-Max eDL40 Extended starts at £59,995 (approx. $80,745) before VAT, while the Double body style is priced at £60,995 ($82,095). The flagship D-Max eV-Cross begins at £62,495 ($84,110), all exclusive of VAT.
For comparison, traditional diesel-powered D-Max models start from just £27,755 ($37,355), with the most luxurious AT35 Double Cab topping out at £57,005 ($76,725) before tax. While the electric version comes at a significant premium, its advanced features, electric powertrain, and enhanced capabilities reflect its status as a pioneering model in the pickup segment.
Customer deliveries of the Isuzu D-Max EV across the UK are scheduled to commence in February 2026, with pre-sales anticipated to open later this year. For buyers seeking a blend of cutting-edge electric performance, rugged utility, and sophisticated design, the D-Max EV sets a new benchmark among electric pickups.
