vivo is preparing a major software transition with the global rollout of OriginOS. The upcoming OriginOS 6, built on Android 16, will mark the operating system's international debut. The company has already rebranded the @FuntouchOS_IN X handle to OriginOS, signaling the shift.

vivo confirmed that OriginOS 6 will be unveiled in China on October 10, 2025, at the vivo Developer Conference. The new release introduces a "Comfort Engineering" design philosophy that prioritizes a more natural, intuitive user experience.
Early teasers highlight a redesigned lock screen with expanded customization options, including a transparent aesthetic. Real-time rendering will simulate the refraction and shadows of natural light so the digital clock can intelligently adjust contrast based on lighting, delivering a more layered, three-dimensional effect.
In addition, a transparent color palette will be available for the lock screen. Subtle variations in transparency create natural drop shadows against the background, allowing the lock image to blend more seamlessly with the interface.
For years, vivo maintained a dual-OS approach: OriginOS for its domestic Chinese lineup and Funtouch OS for global devices. Funtouch OS offers a cleaner, more stock-Android-like experience, while OriginOS is known for its distinctive design language, intricate animations, and extensive customization options such as behavioral wallpapers and interactive widgets.

The vivo X300 series and the iQOO 15 are expected to be the first smartphones to ship with OriginOS 6 out of the box in China when they launch in October. The same is likely to apply to their global releases later in the year.
While vivo has not provided full details on the global OriginOS 6 rollout, the company is expected to publish an international launch timeline soon: registration for the preview program opens on September 29.
