Google Introduces Gemini on Google TV, Expanding AI to the Big Screen

Google has rolled out Gemini for Google TV, bringing advanced conversational AI to living room screens. The update enhances Google Assistant by enabling natural, context-aware conversations on the TV — not just one-off voice commands.

Shalini GovilPai, VP of Google TV, said Gemini can help with entertainment choices, trip planning, and complex queries. Viewers can invoke it by saying ‘Hey Google’ or by holding the microphone button on their TV remote.

Smarter Entertainment Discovery

Gemini streamlines finding something to watch through natural language interactions and follow-up questions:

  • Group viewing suggestions: “Find me something to watch with my wife. I like dramas, but she prefers lighthearted comedies.”
  • Quick season recaps: “What happened in the last season of Outlander?”
  • Vague or trending searches: “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?” — Gemini may surface titles like The Pitt.
  • Review checks before you decide: “What are the reviews for The Pitt?”

Learning and Skills on TV

The TV becomes an interactive learning hub, combining conversational answers with curated video content for step-by-step guidance:

  • Homework help: “Explain why volcanoes erupt to my third grader,” followed by “How do I make a model volcano?”
  • Skill-building: “How do I learn guitar as a beginner?”
  • Cooking suggestions: “What’s a dessert I can make in less than an hour?”

In many cases Gemini pairs responses with related YouTube videos so users can watch demonstrations or deeper explanations directly on their TVs.

Availability

Gemini on Google TV is available starting today on the TCL QM9K series. Google says support will expand to more devices later in 2025, including:

  • Google TV Streamer
  • Walmart onn. 4K Pro
  • Hisense U7, U8, and UX (2025 models)
  • TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K (2025 models)

GovilPai added that Google plans to introduce additional Gemini features for TV over time.
