Toyota updates its entry-level crossover with modest price bumps

Toyota has released full details and pricing for the refreshed 2026 Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross Hybrid, the automaker's most affordable compact crossover. Built in Huntsville, Alabama, the updated lineup arrives with subtle styling tweaks, sensible interior refinements and small MSRP increases: the gas Corolla Cross now starts at $24,635 and the Corolla Cross Hybrid at $28,995 — roughly $500 more than the pre-refresh 2025 models.

What’s changed for 2026?

The updates are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Toyota has made it easier to tell the hybrid apart from the gas model by giving the hybrid a modern, color-matched grille while the gasoline version receives a wider, more rugged radiator grille. All trims now feature revised LED daytime running lights, and there’s a redesigned front console that adds usable storage and a dedicated phone divider on models equipped with wireless Qi charging.

Optional and available tech and comfort upgrades include:

  • A 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen
  • A choice of a 7-inch or 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • The XLE interior in a new Portobello shade
  • Two new 18-inch wheel designs (dark-gray or gloss black sport)
  • A Cold-Weather package standard on certain AWD and hybrid trims
  • New Cavalry Blue paint that can be paired with a Jet Black roof on hybrid SE and XSE models

Powertrains, economy and performance

The standard Corolla Cross continues with Toyota’s Dynamic Force 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 169 horsepower and paired with a CVTi-S continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel-drive gas models are rated at an estimated 32 combined MPG, while AWD versions drop to 30 MPG.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid uses Toyota’s 5th Generation Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine working with three electric motors and an ECVT for a combined 196 hp. Toyota estimates 42 combined MPG for the hybrid, and claims a 0–60 mph time of about eight seconds — competitive figures for the compact crossover segment.

Trim structure and market positioning

The gas Corolla Cross is offered in L, LE and XLE trims with FWD or optional AWD, while the hybrid lineup comprises S, SE and XSE grades, each with standard Electronic On-Demand AWD. With its modest price increase, the Corolla Cross aims to stay a value proposition — delivering Toyota reliability, hybrid efficiency and modern infotainment options at an accessible price point.

Highlights:

"Affordable, efficient and subtly modernized — the 2026 Corolla Cross keeps Toyota’s entry-level crossover competitive without breaking the bank."

For buyers seeking a practical compact crossover with strong fuel economy and up-to-date features, the 2026 Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross Hybrid remain compelling choices.
