Samsung Rolls One UI 8 (Android 16) to Tab S6 Lite

Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 8, based on Android 16, to the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite — but there's a catch: only the 2024 model is receiving the upgrade so far. The rollout has started in parts of Asia and should expand to more regions over the coming weeks.

Who gets the update — and who doesn't

If you own the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite released in 2024, you’re in luck. Samsung’s latest firmware is available for that model in select countries including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. Older Tab S6 Lite tablets aren’t eligible for One UI 8: the original model stopped at Android 13/One UI 5, while the 2022 variant didn’t receive updates beyond Android 14/One UI 6.

How to check and install One UI 8 on your tablet

Installing the update is straightforward. On your Tab S6 Lite (2024) go to Settings > Software update and tap to check manually. The update may not appear immediately — it often rolls out in waves — so try checking a few times or wait for the automatic notification and tap to download when it arrives.

  • Open Settings > Software update.
  • Tap Download and install when the One UI 8 update appears.
  • Back up important data before you install, and ensure your tablet has sufficient battery or is charging.

Why this matters for Tab S6 Lite owners

One UI 8 brings Android 16-level improvements and Samsung refinements that can enhance performance, privacy controls, and user experience. Even if the changes feel incremental, staying on a supported OS improves security and access to newer apps and features.

Not sure whether your device will get One UI 8? Use the Samsung Members app to view regional update schedules under the Notices section — availability varies by market. And if you use a different Galaxy model, check Samsung’s update listings to confirm eligibility.
