Huawei has opened the doors to HarmonyOS 6 public beta, bringing a fresh visual redesign, native AI features and a new personal assistant to compatible devices. If you own a recent Huawei phone, tablet or wearable, here’s everything you need to know about what’s new, which models are included and how to join the beta.
A bolder look, smarter behavior — what’s new in HarmonyOS 6
HarmonyOS 6 focuses on polish and AI-driven convenience. The update refreshes the interface with cleaner animations, deeper lock-screen customization and UI optimizations intended to make everyday interactions feel snappier. But the headline is the suite of AI tools: contextual features that help the OS anticipate what you need, plus XiaoYi — Huawei’s new personal assistant that can surface relevant info and even perform tasks autonomously on your behalf.
Imagine your phone suggesting actions based on your calendar or automatically preparing a message sequence when you start a commute. That’s the kind of context-aware assistance Huawei is packaging into HarmonyOS 6. Performance improvements and visual tweaks round out the release, aiming to make the overall experience feel more modern and responsive.

Which devices are included in the public beta (October 2025)
Huawei has published a China-specific list of models eligible for the public beta. If your device is on the list, you’ll need to register through the My Huawei app to participate. Below are the devices announced for the October 2025 public beta rollout:

Closed beta and upcoming device waves
Huawei is also preparing a closed beta phase later in October, which targets a mix of flagship devices, laptops and accessories. Closed beta devices announced include:
- Huawei Mate XT and Mate XT Ultimate Design
- Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 (2025)
- Huawei MateBook Pro
- Huawei Watch 5 and Watch GT 5 Series
- Huawei FreeBuds 6, FreeBuds 7i and FreeArc
Looking further ahead, Huawei listed another batch of models expected to receive HarmonyOS 6 between November and December 2025. That group includes mid-range phones, tablets and wearables such as the Nova 14 Lite (Vitality Edition), Enjoy 70X, MatePad Mini, multiple MatePad Air and MatePad 11.5S SKUs, plus several audio and wearable SKUs like the Watch Fit 4 series and FreeBuds Pro 4.
How to join the beta and what to expect
Want to try HarmonyOS 6? Open the My Huawei app on a supported device and look for the beta registration section. Back up your data before enrolling — betas can be unstable, and some apps or services might not behave exactly as they do on stable releases. Huawei typically rolls out beta builds gradually, so acceptance and downloads may arrive in waves.
Keep in mind: AI features and XiaoYi’s capabilities may be region-restricted or limited on certain models. If you rely on mission-critical apps, wait for the stable release or try the beta on a secondary device where possible.
Why it matters
HarmonyOS 6 is another step in Huawei’s effort to build a cohesive device ecosystem that leans into AI and seamless cross-device workflows. For consumers, that means more personalized, anticipatory features — and for Huawei, a stronger software identity independent of other mobile platforms. Whether you’re excited about XiaoYi or simply want a snappier interface, the beta gives a first look at the direction Huawei is taking with its software.
If you’re eligible and adventurous, sign up via My Huawei. If not, watch for wider rollout announcements and more region-specific details in the coming months.

Is XiaoYi really gonna auto-handle commutes? Cool, but region locks and beta bugs worry me. If that's real then... who gets it outside China?
