Sony has started rolling out the Android 16 update for the Xperia 10 VII, bringing a batch of new features and improvements to the mid-range 5G handset. The over-the-air (OTA) update is arriving now in several markets and adds usability tweaks, display options, and quick access tools.
What’s included in the Android 16 update?
The new firmware, identified as build 72.1.A.2.65, is a roughly 1GB download and adds a range of user-facing changes. Highlights include:
- Modes: A flexible notification blocker designed to help you focus while driving, working, or sleeping.
- Display improvements: A new Recommended option in display quality settings plus an updated white balance control for finer color tuning.
- Side sense tweaks: Easier ways to enable and disable Side sense gestures for faster one-handed interactions.
- Lock screen and battery access: You can now open lock screen settings directly from the home screen and check battery status more easily.
- Quick screen mirroring: Screen mirroring is accessible from Quick settings via the Cast function for faster connection to TVs and displays.
Where and when will it arrive?
Initial reports indicate the update is widely hitting Xperia 10 VII handsets in Europe and Japan, with more regions expected to follow in the coming days. If you bought the Xperia 10 VII when it launched in September—typically the 5G model with 128GB storage and 8GB RAM—you should see the OTA sooner rather than later.
How to get the update now
To check for the update manually, go to Settings > About phone > Software update. Because the file is about 1GB, use a fast, stable network or Wi‑Fi to download. As always, back up important data before installing major OS updates.
